"All I can tell you is once you see the magic in little things, you’ll be fine, because magic knows exactly when that happens & it’ll never leave you alone after that."

Hello, nostalgia, my old friend. There is something about the week leading up to Christmas that gets me. It is definitely a sentimental marker of time. Sometimes I look at my girls and I just want to press the pause button because it feels like it is all happening way too fast and I want to hold onto all of these tiny moments, even the hard day to day stuff because this is the magic to behold and before I know it we will be past it.  Maybe that is at the heart of why I make. It is my pause. It is as close as I can get to making a moment last.

Ri will be eleven in 12 days. How can this be when it feels like just a week ago she was growing inside my belly? I am so grateful that she still curls up on my lap every now and then and that she still comes into the room while I am reading bedtime stories to her little sister. That she still climbs into my bed in the early morning to lay her sleepy head in the crook of my neck. I can see the little girl becoming a different version of her so when she got all wonderfully wide-eyed at the thought of making tiny knit hats and presents with her ma, you better believe I seized the moment. Just look at the mini magic that we made together-

    Mini Hats-

    1. Cut your card stock in a 1/2" strip*-

    2. divide your strip in half if you are making 2 hats

    3. Bend your strip into a ring and glue the ends together

    4. cut 4" strips of yarn and start looping them around your paper ring like this

Keep looping your yarn around the ring. When you are done you will stuff the yarn ends out the top of the ring. We found that it was easier to do this step little by little as we went versus waiting until the end because the ring is so small.

    5. At this point you should stuff your hat with tissue paper or a pom pom until you get the hat shape you want. Then you will gather the yarn ends and tie a knot at the base of what will become your pom pom.

    6. Double knot your tie and trim your ends to make the pom pom on your knit hat

    Mini Presents-

    1. cut a 1" strip of glitter card stock and form a box

    2. take a piece of wire ribbon and cut a thin piece along the side of the bendy wire section

    Go make some magic!
